New single from Fergal Nash — October 2nd, 2026

I wanted to give you, my email subscribers, an early look at the artwork and the story behind my next single, The Battler, which is released on October 2nd.

The Battler is a short, punchy guitar-driven song, but the idea behind it is pretty simple: sometimes you just have to keep going and give it a try, even when people are telling you that you won’t make it.

The line that really sums up the song for me is:

“Maybe they’re wrong and maybe they’re right.”

That’s the whole point. I’m not pretending that everything is going to work out. Maybe the doubters are right. Maybe they’re wrong. But if you don’t try, you’ll never know.

The song came from that feeling of being criticised, knocked back or told that something can’t be done — and deciding not to let that stop you.

“I don’t care if they slate me
I don’t care if they lie
I don’t care if they hate me
‘Cause I got the guts to go and give it a try.”

I recorded and produced The Battler in my home studio here in Limerick. Like a lot of my music, it’s DIY in the best sense: write the song, pick up the guitar, get behind the mic and make the thing happen.

The artwork follows the same idea. It’s gritty, dramatic and a bit uncompromising — because that’s how the song feels to me. The Battler isn’t about being the biggest or the loudest person in the room. It’s about standing your ground and carrying on.

I’ve already started sharing little pieces of the song online, and I’ll be posting more over the next few weeks as we get closer to release day.
