Recently, I had the pleasure of working with author and poet Ronan McGovern, creating original music to accompany one of his spoken-word poems.

The project came about after Ronan and I connected through a Minding Creative Minds Online meeting. After chatting about his creative work, he asked if I could produce music to accompany his spoken-word performance.

It was exactly the kind of creative project I enjoy — taking spoken words and creating a piece of music that supports the atmosphere, emotion and delivery without taking attention away from the voice.

Creating Music for Spoken Word

For this project, I composed and produced music specifically around Ronan’s spoken-word performance.

Rather than using an existing backing track, the music was created specifically for the poem. This allowed me to shape the arrangement around the rhythm and feel of Ronan’s delivery and create something that worked naturally with his voice.

Once the production was finished, I delivered the completed track in MP3 format within 24 hours.

Ronan was delighted with the result, and I’m very pleased to have been able to help bring his poem to life in a different way.

Music Production for Creative Projects

This project also highlights an area of my studio work that I’d like to develop further.

My home studio in Kilcornan, County Limerick isn’t only available for traditional song recording. I can also create and produce music for spoken-word poetry, narration, creative projects and other forms of audio work.
